Oxford Virtual Academy Dance ClassesOn Pointe is proud to partner with Oxford Virtual Academy (OVA) to offer Introduction to Dance classes to OVA students as part of their elective courses!

Fall 2019 classes will run Mondays at our Metamora studio located at 3772 S. Lapeer Rd. Classes are 14 weeks in length, running from September 9th to December 9th.

This year, we are offering classes designed for the K-5th grade level (Monday 10 – 11 AM), and 6-12th grade (Monday 11 AM – 12 PM). Learn about each grade level’s curriculum and requirements below.

Class Information & Requirements

Introduction to Dance: Kindergarten through 5th Grade

Monday 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This course, designed to meet the needs and abilities of children in grades K-5, is 14 weeks in length. The curriculum covers Ballet in month 1, Tap in month 2, and Jazz in month 3. The class will also give students an orientation to choreography, and develop a student’s music counting ability.

Shoes & Attire for K-5 Intro to Dance

Please prepare students for class with the following:

  • Pink leather full-sole ballet shoes (Note: This is a different shoe from the 6-12 split-sole ballet requirement.)
  • Black patent leather tap shoes
  • Hair pulled back and away from the neck
  • Leotard & tights for girls, black sweatpants and white t-shirt for boys

Introduction to Dance: 6th through 12th Grade

Monday 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Our Introduction to Dance class for higher grade levels is designed to advance through curriculum more quickly to fit the abilities of students in grades 6 – 12. This class is also 14 weeks in length. The curriculum covers Ballet in month 1, Tap in month 2, and Jazz in month 3. We also include an introduction to Lyrical and Hip Hop in the coursework. We will focus on learning choreography, creating student-developed choreography, and counting music.

Shoes & Attire for 6-12 Intro to Dance

Please prepare students for class with the following:

  • Pink leather split-sole ballet shoes (Note: This is a different shoe from the K-5 full-sole ballet requirement.)
  • Black patent leather tap shoes
  • Hair pulled back and away from the neck
  • Leotard & tights for girls, loose-fitting black pants or sweatpants and white t-shirt for boys
